Before I dive in and tell you about how much I adored about my shoot with Emma from Some Wild Darling, let me begin with a favourite quote;
“It doesn’t make sense to call ourselves ugly, because we don’t really see ourselves. We don’t watch ourselves sleeping in bed, curled up silent with our chests rising and falling with our own rhythm. We don’t see ourselves reading a book, eyes fluttering and glowing. You don’t see yourself looking at someone with love and care in your heart. There’s no mirror in your way when you’re laughing and smiling and pure happiness is leaking out of you. You would know exactly how bright and beautiful you are if you saw yourself in the moments where you are truly your authentic self.” – Unknown
Jumping in front of the camera can feel confronting, our inner-critic loves to pipe up and remind us of all of our so called “flaws” and insecurities. As women, we’re so quick to see the beauty in others and often find it difficult to recognise it within ourselves.
Self-love isn’t the absence of insecurities, it’s choosing to love and celebrate ourselves despite them!
And that’s why I loved my shoot with Emma so much! Emm is a photographer too and being behind the lens is her safe haven, a beautiful way to express her creativity and to help others to feel good about themselves. I’m sure Emm will agree, she’s more excited about taking beautiful pictures than being featured in them. Our shoot together was a celebration of ‘walking our talk’, being courageous and allowing that inner light to shine!
Emma I see you and I think you’re beautiful! That glimmer in your eyes, beaming smile and your huge, loving heart…and seriously that HAIR!!! x
